A collection of chairs that I’ve used in various embroidered (and non-embroidered) artworks over the years (and some never before), hand drawn onto the stretched canvas and hand-stitched in the same contour style I typically sketch. Combined here, into a single composition. I stumbled upon or found these chairs / furniture pieces in:
Athens, Georgia
Atlanta, Georgia
Clarksville, Georgia
Jericho, Vermont
Johnson, Vermont
Montreal, Canada, and more!
I love chairs because they are anthropomorphic- they have arms, legs, a seat… like humans. They take on the characteristics of humans - i.e. someone who always leans on their left elbow will see wear on the left arm of the chair more so than the right from the repeated use. When these chairs are abandoned or thrown away… they’re throwing a piece of themselves away. I embroider them to remember, like a tombstone. To return to something to remind you of them.
The size is 20 inches x 8 inches
Ready to hang with a wire installed on the back.
